My theme is <the Irony of Human Evolution>
Human greed, the driving force of development and evolution, has two sides.
Under the theory of natural selection, humans weaker than most animals were able to survive and evolve in the competition for survival because of their high intelligence and desire to conquer. In order to protect themselves and conquer competitors, humans developed the weapons `to the extent that early humans built stone axes, passed sharp knives, guns, and now nuclear bomb. In this way, humans are gradually evolving based on their desire to conquer. However, I have the question of what is at the end of this evolution?
The most advanced weapon in existence, the nuclear bomb, is the most powerful means of self-destruction, also to satisfy the desire to conquer. It is ironic that nuclear weapons created for self-protection, the essence of the desire to conquer, are threatening their lives at the same time. I would like to know what the endless greed and power of humans pursue. If this reality continues, I think the end of human evolution is the beginning of human destruction and I will proceed with the project under the theme of the irony of this evolution.
I will focus on nuclear as a weapon of power and the effects and consequences of this material; I will look at Chernobyl and other elements of the after effects of nuclear exposure on the environment, humans and wildlife.
First, I will investigate human desire to conquer. It will study weapons that symbolize the desire to conquer, and war, the end of the desire to conquer. Starting with early human stone axes, I will conduct research on various weapons on the Internet and visit ‘Imperial War museum’ to get information about World War and the bombs.
In addition, I will conduct research focusing on this project by symbolizing human conquer greed as a ‘nuclear’. I will understand the atmosphere of real events related to nuclear weapons through movies(‘Chernobyl 1986’) and analyze the disastrous consequences of them, such as mutations, through books and Internet search. I will explore the book ‘The Future’s Mirror’ which story is about insects investigation near the Chernobyl. The final design produced through this analysis will show the disastrous result of human greed and the Contradiction of human evolution.
I am studying to enter ‘BA fashion Textile : Knit ‘ as a starting point to achieve my dream of becoming a knit designer. This project will also show my aspiration. When selecting this topic, it also had an important influence on whether there are various sources that can get enough ideas for my outcome. I think I can make interesting textiles using motif from radiation exposed bodies, bizarre and dynamic mutations. Moreover, I can represent them effectively using weaving and knitting techniques which I have to show.
My intention of design is to collaborate with a mid-luxury brand ‘GANNI’ with my knitted fabric. This collection will be a capsule collection with a theme of ‘Unlovely.’ Which contrasts with ‘Ganni’ which has a unique and lively mood, and its goal is to increase the interest and accessibility of young people, who are target customers by designing unpleasant things in a lovely way.
For this project, I need to manage my time well. I have to make a total of 10 knit samples, so I will decide on a sub-topic (ex, Radiation exposure, mutation.- Sample making according to the order of Nuclear bomb results)every week and complete the sample making in time.
