Term3_Unlovely

< Project Proposal is in the last post ! >

March Moodboard Reveiw

(I was absent that class and I can write self reflective statement because I get many feedbacks from tutors and peers , I know what was the problem )

moodboard1

moodboard2

I didn’t select these two subjects. At that time, I thought these three subjects are similar because to be honest, the only reason I search these things is visually unlovely and interesting. Actually I sent an email to Giles at that time to ask a feedback. Giles recommend me Radioactivity but I didn’t know the reason. However, after holiday, I knew the problem of my moodboard and why Giles recommend me Radioactivity.

First as I mentioned above, the only reason I select them is visually interesting. I just thought about making samples better. There was no my thoughts here. Term3 projects have to include my thoughts.

Second, If I choose 2 above subjects, I will only search internet pictures. or just visit fish market and find a mold at home. These are too thematic subjects. Maybe it would be hard to find academic resources. Unless I find it about mold, it will be just some mold pictures in the book.

However Nuclear bomb and Radioactivity can makes me think more. I can research the era of nuclear bomb, Wars when using it and why the made it or the results of it and so on.

That’s why ‘Nuclear bomb and Radioactivity’ is appropriate for the term3 project I think.

The result of radioactivity

I’ve been to the library and search books related to radioacitivity.

This book is a real story that researchers investigated insects near Chernobyl. Insects drawn in this book are mutations. their appearance is not normal.

Researchers write this book to approve the radioactivity definitely affect organism including human. Then I will search scientific evidence how radioactivity works in human body

textile drawing test

radiation exposured skin

The scientific analysis how radiation affect mutations

When radioactivity penetrates the human body, the DNA structure breaks down and the cells cannot repair themselves, so they live in ruins.

Strawberry Mutation textile sample plan

flower mutation (not use maybe)

The consequences of the nuclear accident were disastrous. I was worried about how to make it pretty with the results of visually horrible or bizarre appearances.

Unlike the last term, which mainly used experimental materials, I want to use many yarn to show technical textiles. So I searched for various weaving and knitting techniques and I will try to use as many methods as possible within my current ability. I will also represent various forms of mutation voluminous.

I plan to create interesting mix-media collages using radioactive results and until now, I have planned several textile designs along with research and tested new knitting techniques. In the class, I will ask the tutor for advice on my current plan and then start making fabrics.

It’s still in the early stages, but I’m looking forward to my final design because I think to make unlovely things lovely is a really interesting project.
